| BYD Auto is a Chinese automobile manufacturer based in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, People's Republic of China. The firm was founded in 2003 and it is a part of the BYD Company Limited. The BYD company, established in 1995, makes 65% of the world’s nickel-cadmium batteries and 30% of the world's lithium-ion mobile phone batteries. Based on this background, BYD Auto has ambitious plans for electric (pure and hybrid) automobiles. In December 2008, BYD Auto started selling the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid vehicle, the BYD F3DM, made for the domestic Chinese market. |

Wang studied chemistry at the Central South Industrial University of Technology and went on to earn a master's degree in 1990 from the Beijing Non-Ferrous Research Institute. He spent several years as a government researcher, but in 1995 he entered the private sector and founded his own company, BYD Co., outside of Shenzhen
