3C Companies launch Roadmap to combating climate change in Washington, D.C.
Hosting a series of public and private meetings attended by HMK Carl Gustaf of Sweden, Senators Lieberman and Kerry, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, and more than 50 executives from participating companies, the 3C initiative launched its recommendations to political leaders in Washington, D.C. on 8-9 November, 2007. The events were well received by the most important political decision-makers on the climate issue, including President George W. Bush.

8 November -- After a welcome from Swedish Ambassador Jonas Hafström, Senator Lieberman welcomed participants and guests with an update on the progress of climate legislation in the United States, particularly the Lieberman-Warner bill’s attempt to establish a national market in carbon emissions. Senator Lieberman recognised the importance role business has played in driving change, a message that was reinforced over dinner with short speeches from CEOs from the 3C network. These messages were complemented by remarks from Minnesota Governor and Chair of the National Governor’s Association, Tim Pawlenty, and Professor Jeffrey Sachs, founder of the Global roundtable on Climate Change.
3C executives brief White House on Roadmap’s recommendations
9 November – A select group of executives from participating 3C companies met with more than 15 members of the Bush Administration’s energy and environmental policy teams to discuss the recommendations in the Roadmap and the position of the United States in a potential global climate change framework.

9 November – Opening with a speech from HMK Carl Gustaf of Sweden on climate change and sustainable development, this seminar presented the 3C initiative’s 8 recommendations and the commitment of its members for the first time in a public forum. Attended by more than 60 participant companies, guests, and members of the press, the seminar’s discussions were led by 3C top executives Lars Josefsson (Vattenfall), Peter Darbee (PG&E), Zhou Shouwei (CNOOC), Michael Klein (Citi), Prasad Menon (Tata Power), Vyacheslav Sinyugin (RAO UESR), and Jeffrey Sterba (PNM Resources). Discussions and interactions with the media were moderated by former congressman Phil Sharp, President of Resources for the future.
3C issues letter to heads of G8+5, receives supportive response
9 November – The heads of state of the G8+5 countries received a letter stressing the importance of their role as leaders in combating climate change, and the commitment of the 3C companies to support them in their efforts. The letter was met with a positive response, with replies received to date from the President of the United States, the Japanese government and the Canadian Prime MInister.
